Team 1547, "Where's Waldo?" began in September 2004 when Trafalgar Castle School teamed up with General Motors of Canada to create an all girl teams within the FIRST organization and FIRST has not been the same since! Our team's spirit and image have made us impossible to forget. Our motto, "Girls Can!", lays the foundation for our goal of promoting science and technology to women and to challenge girls to strive beyond traditional boundaries.
GirlsFIRST is an intiative created by our team. For the complete list of all the community projects we have achieved through this initiative, please check out our Community Page.
Our team name comes from Robert A. Heinlein's novella, Waldo. The main character, Waldo, is a disabled genius who uses remote manipulators (or "waldoes") to execute his commands. The word has now come to mean a mechanical agent, such as a gripper arm, controlled by a human limb. It has also become part of our image as a team.
